![]() Welcome WELCOME TO THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT Web page. The psychology department, established in 1917, has a long history of graduating majors who make a positive impact on the world, both through their academic pursuits and the service they provide their communities. Psychology is a research endeavor where scientists seek to unravel the mysteries of emotion, thought, and behavior. It is also an applied field where professionals help individuals improve their well-being. Our department aims to prepare students for both research and practice. Take a few minutes to explore our course offerings, our recent and prominent alumni, and our many opportunities for students to engage in a range of learning experiences. If you are considering majoring in psychology at Ohio Wesleyan, looking through the “Department Information” links should give you a good feel for the department’s offerings. A large and friendly department, our faculty pride themselves on their skill as teachers and as researchers. Many of our faculty members have won teaching awards, and each is committed to excellence in the classroom. On the research side, the breadth of our research interests is substantial. From the functioning of microscopic brain cells to the impacts that a community can have on a individual, there are research topics to fit the interests of every student. The department is located in Room 52 of Phillips Hall. Questions about the department can be answered by contacting the chair, Dr. Richard Leavy or by calling the office (740) 368-3802.
