In addition to having the courses grouped by content area above, we have divided the courses into three tiers to help students decide what courses are appropriate at their current level of knowledge.

There is one tier one course: Introductory Psychology. All students must take this course before any other course in the department. Further, they must earn at least a C- in Introductory Psychology to be eligible to take a tier two course. This course is noted with a 1 next to it.

After the one tier one course is successfully completed, students may move on and take a tier two course. The tier two courses are noted above with a 2 next to them.

Before moving on to a tier three course, students must pass two tier two courses. The tier three courses are noted above with a 3 next to them.

Finally, there are a few courses in the department outside of the tiering system. They include 210 - Quantitative Methods and 310 - Research Methods. These courses have their own prerequisites that should be consulted before attempting to enroll.

For course descriptions, prerequisites and a more complete description of the tiering requirements, please see the psychology department’s section of the OWU catalog.
